Defeating Asthma and Improving Performance

On May 23, Daniel Mauri, a young patient and volleyball italian player, visited us at GEK Lab. On the advice of his trusted pharmacist, he chose to use our products to address a long-standing problem: asthma that just wouldn’t let go.

The benefits experienced were so surprising, both in speed and effectiveness, that Daniel wanted to share his story with us.

In this article, we highlight the key moments of this interesting exchange, hoping to inspire and inform anyone interested in improving their well-being through a mindful approach to nutrition. Enjoy reading!

Good morning, Daniel. Can you tell us who you are and what you do?

Hello! My name is Daniel Mauri, I am 25 years old. I work as a self-employed craftsman and have been playing volleyball for 12 years, currently in Serie B.

Unlike what one might think, in my case, it wasn’t a long journey to start noticing small changes. Quite the opposite! After just two or three weeks, I began to notice improvements in every aspect: health, energy, physical condition (loss of fat and excess fluids), and athletic performance.

To fight the symptoms of asthma and improve one’s quality of life and energy levels, we recommend following a PerMè Medical Program.

Why did you decide to start a journey with us?

I learned about your approach through my girlfriend and her family, who recommended this program to improve my asthma and seasonal allergy situation.

What were the symptoms of your asthma? How did they limit you in your sports activities?

The symptoms of asthma were clearly breathing difficulties and shortness of breath, especially before going to bed or in the morning right after waking up. Before physical activity, it was necessary to use the inhaler; otherwise, I struggled significantly to breathe properly.

You mentioned the inhaler. What therapy did you use to manage your asthma?

To manage it, or rather to keep it under control, I used a corticosteroid bronchodilator twice a day, every day. I also kept an inhaler on hand in case of an asthma attack.

Which product was recommended to you to address the problem?

During my first visit with you, I was recommended the PerMè Medical Program, with the aim of evaluating my inflammatory profile from foods and sugars, as well as genetic predispositions.

Tell us about the journey you undertook after receiving the results of the report and measuring your levels of inflammation from sugars and foods.

Once I became aware of my (high!) levels of inflammation from foods, but especially from sugars, I felt ready to undertake the journey with commitment. Not only that! Genetic predispositions to important health conditions also emerged, which only increased my desire to turn things around. The goal represented a higher level of well-being, both in terms of physical condition and sports performance, but most importantly, in terms of health. So, with the results of the PerMè Medical Program in hand, I met with the nutritionist: together, we analyzed the report and created a personalized plan and diet based on my needs and commitments.

How has your diet changed, considering your sports commitments as well?

My diet changed not so much in terms of meal timing or the number of meals, but in terms of quality. Breakfast was the meal that changed the most, as I used to have milk with biscuits or cereals, which are a high source of sugars. Instead, I learned to balance breakfast with both sweet and savory protein-rich foods. After all, it’s always a matter of habit… nowadays, there are countless alternatives for every taste and/or need. So why not get used to better habits?!

Lunch and dinner are quite similar: the focus is on the protein portion, which is accompanied by a serving of whole grains and a portion of vegetables to complete the dish. We introduced a pre-workout snack to curb hunger before dinner: it’s a small, balanced meal to modulate sugar absorption (even if it’s from a fruit). Special attention is given to all “protein” supplements (especially the more commercial ones), as they are generally sweetened to make them more pleasant.

Is this diet compatible with your social life?

Honestly, yes! The diet also includes free days, which make it easier to manage outings with friends or special occasions. After all, the ultimate goal is well-being, so it shouldn’t be seen as a constraint. The awareness of the journey also helps a lot in saying no to temptations and “cheat meals.”

How long did it take before you noticed improvements in your symptoms?

Not long at all! Contrary to what one might think, in my case, it wasn’t a long journey to start noticing small changes. Quite the opposite! After just two or three weeks, I began to notice improvements in every aspect: health, energy, physical condition (loss of fat and excess fluids), and athletic performance. This was clearly due to a sudden shift, limiting (not eliminating) those categories of foods that caused inflammation.

In addition to the symptoms that initially brought you to us, have you noticed any other benefits?

Initially, I didn’t even think about this great benefit, yet the first changes I noticed were right at the gym: more explosiveness, energy, and less fatigue. As an indirect result, I also experienced an improvement in mood and a greater desire to act.

The most noticeable and sudden change was feeling much more energetic in the morning after breakfast, when I would usually feel tired, even after a good night’s sleep. This was due to the glycemic spike caused by my previously unbalanced breakfast.

To conclude, would you recommend a PerMè Medical Program to a friend or a teammate?

Of course! I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to challenge themselves and feels ready to take on an inspiring journey. It changed my life!
